Thinning hair and hair loss is an unfortunate aspect of aging for both men and women and a common sign of hormone imbalance. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)* is a completely natural treatment for thinning hair involving a series of shallow PRP injections into the scalp where thinning is most pronounced. PRP releases growth factors which enhance blood flow to the follicle, activates the growth phase (anagen) of the hair cycle, and turns down the shedding phase (telogen). PRP has been shown to increase hair thickness, number of follicles and improve overall health and integrity of the hair. It can be used for hair loss secondary to a variety of causes including aging, hormones, nutritional deficits and chronic disease.
Typically a series of 3-6 monthly treatments is recommended to achieve the full effects of PRP Hair Restoration. The treated follicles need time to go through the normal growth phases before results are appreciated. Early signs of new growth are often visible between the 2nd & 3rd treatments, though can appear earlier on or take longer, depending on the individual.
*For 10 years we used Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for our Hair Restoration procedures. We have since transitioned to using Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), otherwise known as PRP 2.0, as it provides better, longer-lasting results. The patient experience is otherwise unchanged.

FAQ
PRP contains growth factors which stimulates new cell growth within the follicle. When injected into the scalp, this effect activates the growth (anagen) phase and turns down the shedding (telogen) phase of the hair cycle. Studies have shown that PRP increases both the number of active follicles as well as hair thickness.
At the beginning of the visit, a small amount of blood, is drawn from the patient. As the PRP is processed in the centrifuge (using a double-spin approach), before pictures are taken, followed by a cleansing preparation of the scalp. PRP is then injected just under the skin with very fine needles in the targeted areas.
Does this procedure hurt?
A local anesthetic and buffering agent is mixed with the PRP to improve comfort during the treatment. Most people tolerate the procedure well, reporting mild discomfort from the injections. Mild soreness in the treated area may linger for 1-2 days following the procedure. Although often unnecessary, Tylenol and ice can be used after the procedure to address lingering discomfort. A local anesthetic prior to the procedure may be administered if desired, please consult with the doctor performing the procedure.
PRP Hair Restoration is a safe and effective option for most patients with thinning hair and hair loss. The treatment is most effective for those with diffuse thinning, early balding, and receding hair-lines. PRP Hair Restoration is often effective for those suffering from alopecia areata, as a cause of hair loss.
The recommended course of treatment includes 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. A maintenance treatment is recommended every 6-12 months depending on individual needs.
Result timing varies. Some individuals will achieve new growth after the 1st treatment while others don’t see a change until after the 3rd treatment. Peak results occur 6-9 months following the initial treatment.
Cost of treatment is $550/ procedure. Packages of 3 are discounted by 10%, packages of 6 are discounted by 20%.
